The Porsche 996 GT3 was striped of any unnecessary extras to reduce the weight to maximise the use of its vast engine improvements. To keep with the cars track potential, Porsche gave the GT3 new and improved enlarged brakes, a lowered re-tuned suspensions system, lighter weight wheels, a new front bumper and to achieve additional downforce a new rear spoiler. Between the years of 1999 and 2001 a total of 1,868 units of the car were sold. The Porsche 996 GT3 managed to 7 minutes 56 seconds around the Nurburgring.
