The sun-drenched port city of Cartagena, situated on the south-eastern coast of Spain, holds over 3000 years of fascinating history. From the Roman Empire to the Civil War, there is little the city dubbed 'La Heroica' hasn't seen.
Thankfully, with its roving salsa bands, peaceful cobblestoned Old Town and modernist architecture taking centre stage, the turbulent Cartagena of old is now a distant memory.
However, that's not to say Cartagena is simply all about museums, architecture and lounging in tapas bars! Those searching for a more action packed experience while visiting 'La Heroica' may wish to head just a 15 minute drive from the city centre with TrackDays.co.uk…
The Circuit
Indeed, nestled in the rolling hills just outside of the city is a more recent addition to Cartagena's history, Circuito Velocidad de Cartagena. Translation? Cartagena Speed Circuit.
And it is speed that this circuit delivers! Retaining the same layout since the venue opened in 1992, the track boasts a 600 metre long straight, a mixture of tricky speed corners and a series of impressive elevation changes, making Cartagena the perfect practice track for the world's best WSB and MotoGP riders.
However, just because the professionals reserve Cartagena for testing, it's not to say it's all business at Cartagena. The circuit's undulating gradients and fantastic final chicane will be sure to give petrol heads their adrenaline fix as they look to chip away at their lap times with TrackDays.co.uk.
A Biker's Paradise
Each year, the drab winter weather does its best to stifle the spirits of even the sturdiest of motorcyclists. This leaves many riders putting their thinking caps (or helmets!) on as they consider how they can go for a ride with the sun on their backs.
In which case, riders may well look to swap the cold, blustery routes in the likes of Carlisle or Cardiff for the warm climate of Cartagena!
Needless to say, Spain is much hotter than the UK - and this is particularly the case in Cartagena! The average temperature rarely drops below 10°C.
What's more, España loves bikers! While many Brits may roll their eyes when a group of bikers turn up – the Spanish rub their hands. Indeed, the likes of Pedrosa, Lorenzo and Marquez are revered much like movie stars in Spain.
Having said this, TrackDays.co.uk cannot guarantee you will inherit the skills of the professionals, nor will the red carpet be rolled out when you touch down in Cartagena!
