First debuting in 2004, the 997 had actually been in development since 1998. The 997 looked to enhance not only the mechanics of the 996, but also overhaul the interior design as well. The return to oval lights received a positive response throughout the car community, and it was this, together with the new and improved braking system, engine size, exhaust and suspension, that made the 997 a smash hit from the off.
The new 3.6 litre engine means an increase to 415 bhp, and a new max speed of 193 mph to go alongside that. This is all accompanied by the traditional handling that the 911 is so famous for. Hugging the corners whilst providing an injection of acceleration all amongst an luxurious interior is Porsche’s bread and butter, and arguably the 997 is the biggest proponent of that.
