The WRX variant of the third generation of Subaru’s Impreza hatchback models had already been on the market for six months by the time the Subaru Impreza WRX STi was first debuted at the Tokyo Auto Show in October 2007.
The WRX badge name is of course the high performance variant of the Impreza, and the STi builds on its already significant modifications further; amongst them, a twin scroll turbocharger, that directs the flow of air through a top-mounted intercooler on the bonnet.
As you might expect, it makes the car noticeably heavier - weighing in at 1270kg - but make no mistake, this is the most powerful of the WRX fleet. The 2.0 litre EJ207 that the Impreza WRX STi is fitted with sings out with 300 bhp, cruising from 0 - 60 mph in just over 5 seconds, with capable top speeds in excess of 143 mph.
