Whilst it’s widely accepted that the classic gold standard for Aston Martin is the DB5, they’re also one of the few supercar marques who have always had the knowledge to know that they couldn’t just get by trading on heritage alone. They have always had the foresight to evolve.
Hence the DB6, which, whilst retaining the same timeless feel in design, takes everything that made its predecessor so well loved and boosts it to the next level when it comes to engineering. For starters, there is the much broader 3.75 inch wheel base, which allows for much greater control and handling of the road at high speeds.
And high speeds are something this Aston Martin can deliver with bells on. It’s boosted up to a 4.0 litre engine, packing 314 bhp, and boasts a top speed of 150 mph, going from 0 - 60 mph in just under 9 seconds.
Cool Facts About the Aston Martin DB6
The Aston Martin DB6 was first unveiled at the London Motor Show in the autumn of 1965. And as if to prove itself as a classic supercar from the swinging 60s, it quickly won itself some very famous fans from royalty, pop music, acting and fashion of the time, including HRH Prince Charles, Twiggy, Peter Sellers and Sir Paul McCartney.
Later models of the DB6 that were produced, towards the end of their run, included the DB6 Volante, a convertible that succeeded the original Volante model that had been built around the last of the DB5’ chassis (which had a shorter wheelbase). This was followed by the DB6 Mk II in the summer of 1969.
