Building British motoring greats on More4 TV series - News

One TV series we somehow overlooked discussing that kept us entertained during the first lockdown last year on TrackDays was How to Build British. But for those of us who missed its original airing first time - or just fancy seeing it again - you'll be glad to know that More4 are currently rerunning the whole series on Tuesday evenings.

The hour long episodes in the five part run are a brilliant insight into the making of some truly iconic cars made here in the UK, from conception and design, building and engineering all the way through to the finished article rolling off the production line, which details precisely the level of technicality and art that goes into making some British marques that are recognised worldwide.

The first episode of the series - which was shown again on Tuesday night (20th April) - went into Bentley's main production plant at Crewe, and the making of their high performance Continental GT. Retailing at £170,000, it certainly doesn't come cheap, but seeing the level of work that goes into making it you soon begin to understand why.

It's a performance car that mixes power and speed with luxe plushness and sophistication that has made it so beloved of the famous and insanely rich. Seeing it come from the bare bolts all the way through to the completed car in such meticulous detail means these documentaries have plenty for automotive geeks everywhere to salivate over.

However, seeing the teams and the people that are behind its making every step of the way, from designers through to fitters, adds heart to what would otherwise be a slightly more elaborate electronic press kit, and how much of a labour of love it all is that makes How to Build British compelling viewing.

And the rest of the series promises an equal amount of exciting features. Amongst the cars to come in future episodes will be the £237,000 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, the £90,000 Morgan Plus Six, and even a look into how the first eco-powered version of the iconic London Cab is made.

How to Build British continues Tuesday nights at 10pm on More4. Head to our Aston Martin and Bentley pages today on the TrackDays website to book your next driving experience day in the superfast British car of your choice from available dates or purchase of our open gift vouchers.
