Looking Ahead: New Sports Cars Set to Turn Heads in the Next Year - News

Not too long ago, the "the future of motoring" was pitched as a bland electric hatchback, whisper-quiet and about as exciting as a rice cake. It was the era when innovation meant silence and style was sacrificed on the altar of efficiency. Thankfully, that version of the future has been put on hold - and in its place, we’re getting this lot. Electric this, hybrid that… but crucially, still fast, still beautiful, and still thoroughly ridiculous in all the right ways.

Here are the sports cars arriving from 2025 and beyond that might just keep us all from weeping into our steering wheels.

Alpine A110 EV – The Lightweight Contender

Alpine’s A110 was a featherweight delight. Now they’ve strapped a battery to it, added 258kg, and somehow reckon it’s still fun. We’ll see. But with 239bhp and the same pretty shape, it might just be the only electric coupe that doesn’t feel like a spreadsheet on wheels.

Toyota FT-Se – Supra’s Sparky Sibling

Toyota's shown us the FT-Se concept and, unlike most electric cars, it looks properly exciting. Sharp lines, low stance, and it might even go around corners properly. Could this be Toyota remembering what the word “fun” means? Possibly. Fingers crossed it doesn’t turn into another sensible crossover.

Porsche 718 Boxster EV – The Silent Sizzler

The Boxster is going electric. Yes, I know, but don’t panic - Porsche is still building it with handling in mind. They’ve worked hard to make sure it still handles like a proper sports car, rather than feeling like someone bolted wheels onto a shipping container full of Duracells. It’s lighter than you'd expect (just), and if they get this right, it could be the first electric car that actually feels like a proper sports car, rather than a MacBook with wheels.

McLaren W1 – The Successor to Speed

This is the P1’s successor. Which, in McLaren terms, means it's got all the subtlety of a tactical missile. A twin-turbo V8, plus electric bits, naturally. But crucially, it still looks and sounds like a McLaren should. And only 399 of them will exist, which makes it more exclusive than a functioning British train.

Ferrari F80 – Hybrid, But in a Good Way

Ferrari has decided that the best way to save the planet is with 1,200 horsepower. Sensible. The F80 pairs a twin-turbo V6 with three electric motors, because apparently one was just too easy. 0–100 km/h in 2.15 seconds. That’s actually quicker than you can say “is that legal?”. The Ferrari F80 shows that Ferrari still know how to blend power and style without breaking a sweat.

Porsche Mission X – Stuttgart’s Electric Spacecraft

Now, Those who know me know I love a Porsche, and this one’s no exception. It looks like something Batman would take out for a spin, and that’s probably the point. The Mission X is Porsche’s electric hypercar concept, and they’re targeting the lap record. Four motors, all-wheel drive, and a power-to-weight ratio that’s... well, rather ridiculous. If this is Porsche’s electric future, sign me up. Twice.(please)

New Porsche 911 – Same Shape, More Zap

Yes, it still looks like a 911. Of course it does. But now there’s a hybrid version quietly sneaking its way into the range. It’s Porsche easing into electrification like it's slipping into a cold bath - slowly, nervously, but determined not to scream. Expect it to be fast, clever, and maddeningly brilliant as always.

And then, of course, we’ve got a few more in the mix. There’s the long-awaited Tesla Roadster (though, to be honest, I’d rather not mention anything about Musk right now) and the Nissan R36 GT-R. Both cars are bound to turn heads, though whether they'll actually live up to the hype remains to be seen. Still, the sheer anticipation makes you think they might just surprise us.

If you’d like to feel what it’s like to be hurled forward by hundreds of horsepower - or silently whisked along in the next generation of electric speed - we offer plenty of Supercar Experiences and Electric Car Driving Experiences - and you don’t have to wait for these future legends to hit the road. The thrill is here and now.
