Your day kicks off at the training centre, where you’ll meet your dedicated instructor. They’ll walk you through what to expect and what you’ll learn. Then it’s time to get acquainted with your driving beast, a 44-tonne Volvo truck connected to a 45ft trailer. Standing beside it, you’ll quickly appreciate the sheer size of an HGV. Climbing into the cab offers a whole new perspective; you’ll feel like royalty with that commanding view of the road! With your instructor at the wheel, you'll travel from Lancing to Ford Airfield near Arundel. It’s a great intro to life in the cab, with time to soak in the experience and ask all your trucking questions. Once on the private airfield, it’s your turn to drive. After mastering the basics, moving off, steering, and stopping, you’ll level up to trickier manoeuvres like reversing into bays and weaving through a coned slalom. You’ll also learn the essential skill of coupling and uncoupling trailers—there’s a real art to it, and you’ll be shown exactly how it’s done. And if you're seriously thinking about becoming a professional HGV driver, you can take things further. With a provisional licence (and a required medical), you may even head out on the open road during your experience.

Optional Extra:

Part of your training experience can be done on-road by prior arrangement
This is subject to a medical for an additional charge of £65 payable directly (or you can contact your doctor)
A provisional LGV licence can then be issued to enable you to drive on the roads
The training centre can assist with the forms if required
