Woodbridge Airfield, situated near the town of Woodbridge in Suffolk, started life as RAF Woodbridge during World War II, when it was opened in 1943. It was a base for both the Royal Air Force and also the US Air Force (USAF) during the latter years of WWII and also the Cold War, before ceasing operations after 50 years in 1993.

It’s been in the ownership of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) since 2006, known as MoD Woodbridge, incorporating both the original airfield and Rock Barracks, and following extensive redevelopment and investment, it is now used by the Army Air Corps as a helicopter pilot training facility, and is also home to the British Army’s Royal Engineers in several Parachute Squadrons.

Of course, being an airfield, what facilities are available on-site to visitors and spectators are very limited, so you are advised to dress and equip appropriately for the weather.
