KEY POINTS
It's not just adventures and thrills we offer on the straights and corners of the track circuit here at Trackdays. It's those driving experiences that take place off the beaten track we offer too, including some that only the fearless are brave enough to take on.
Our Off Road Buggy experiences are the perfect example of this, as they offer the chance to unleash some serious power whilst going hell for leather around the confines - and most importantly, dirt and mud - of rougher terrains.
So, if you're curious as to what goes down on one of these experiences - or want to know why you should book one - we'll reveal all…
Off-road buggies come in all shapes and sizes, but the one thing that is common to all of them is that they're lightweight in frame and design. And they have broader, more robust tyres which are more conducive to having good traction and grip on uneven surfaces, in all kinds of weather. That's why they're classed as an ATV (all terrain vehicle).
That's why you've probably more than likely seen them being used in settings such as deserts or rocky mountains. Exact models for experiences will vary by venue, but amongst those that can be booked there's the Yamaha Viking, which is a three seater buggy.
And then there's the Rage Motorsport Hurricane, a mightily powered buggy with a 1050cc Yamaha FX Nytro engine that reaches speeds of 120mph, that can be booked on for a Rage Buggy Blast or Rage Buggy Thrill experience.
Typically, after your welcome and sign on at the venue, you'll meet with a qualified instructor, who will take you through a safety briefing either in or out of the vehicle, which will get you accustomed to the track or area used for driving, as well as being kitted up with any relevant safety equipment - helmets, gloves, overalls etc.
So what will the track be like? Well, this will depend on which venue you book at. At the venue at Redhill in Surrey, for example, the track used is a mixture of different surfaces, where it starts on tarmac, but then progresses to loose gravel and also chalk.
At Elvington Airfield in North Yorkshire and Kendrew Barracks in Leicestershire, which host our Rage Buggy packages, they've got a specially prepared dirt track which is full of stones, mud and gravel.
But then, on the completely opposite end of the spectrum, you've got what's known as Kite Buggying, which takes place at beach destinations like Camber Sands in East Sussex, where you're learning to fly a power kite whilst hurtling down the sands in a three wheel buggy - a great way to try it out during the summer months!
Either way, and no matter what the weather is like on the day you go, you can expect an ideal environment for a driving day quite unlike any other you've had before - or will thereafter.
Some of the packages, such as the Rage Buggy vouchers, will require you to hold a full driving licence in order to take part. Others however, can be booked on by all ages to enjoy and don't require a licence.
Nevertheless, it's worth bearing in mind, so make sure you read through all the terms and conditions carefully before you make your booking. For some vouchers where those aged 16 and under can take part, adult supervision or accompaniment at the venue may also be required.
Off Road Buggy drives will take place in almost all weather - that's part of the excitement of it all - but in exceptional circumstances such as severe weather warnings, it may not be able to go ahead safely. Rest assured that the supplier at the venue will contact you if that's the case, to rearrange your booking to an alternative date.
Firstly, because it's a wildly different - some might say unhinged - way to drive, because it's free of the usual constrictions of the race track. But then there's also the fact that it lends itself well to being booked as an exciting driving day for almost any occasion.
Whether it's a birthday or Christmas gift for a thrill seeker in your life, or the opportunity to treat yourself to some quality adrenaline rushes, it can even be customised to accommodate larger group bookings, such as Corporate Driving Days or even Stag or Hen Do parties.
All in all, an Off Road Buggy driving package is the opportunity to enjoy some furious driving fun that simply can't be replicated on any other set of wheels - or terrains. You can book yours today through purchase of one of our open Gift Vouchers!
