KEY POINTS
If you have just discovered Trackdays, and are looking to book one of the thousands of incredible Driving Experience days that we have available at multiple locations across the UK, you may be wondering whether you - or the lucky recipient of one of our vouchers - will be able to take part.
This guide we have put together explains some of the most common requirements laid out by our network of suppliers that are listed on our driving experience packages, so that you can make an informed decision about which one you are making a booking for.
The minimum age will vary depending on what driving experience has been booked. For adult driving packages, this is typically from 17 years old, and for junior experience packages, it is from 10 years old.
That said, there are a number of vouchers, for example, High Speed Passenger Rides, which are junior friendly. Kids as young as 5 years old can be booked onto these packages, where the instructor is at the wheel of a performance saloon car or other high performance vehicle, and they enjoy a high speed ride around the circuit layout.
It should also be noted that on some vouchers, there is also a maximum age limit. This will again, vary depending on the supplier, but for some adult driving vouchers, this is capped at around 85 years old, and for junior driving vouchers this will be at around 16 or 17 years old.
The minimum height restrictions will differ for both adults and juniors depending on the voucher booked. Typically, this is set at around 4ft 10” to 5ft.
The reason that this requirement is in place is because of how far the seats will adjust in certain vehicles, and the distance to the pedals and controls, as well as being able to see over the dashboard and steering wheel adequately enough.
It may be the case that some suppliers will be able to offer booster cushions or other aids, although, with the exception of certain vouchers, such as our Driving with a Disability packages, this is not always guaranteed. So it is always best to check before you book.
Whilst there is no specific minimum weight requirement to meet on driving experiences, there usually is a maximum weight restriction that needs to be met.
The reason for this is because for some vehicles, for example, those on our Supercar Driving Experiences, they have an upper weight limit of between 18 - 20 stone (114 - 127kg).
This restriction is more in place to ensure your comfort when driving, as there is less space between the seat and the steering wheel on these cars. The specific maximum weight information can be found under the 'General' section of the voucher you want to book.
At most venues, and on most driving experiences, you will be required to hold a driving licence. Junior driving experiences do not require a driving licence. On specific vouchers, such as our Single Seater or Arrive and Drive experiences, you will need to have held your licence for between one - three years.
It may be the case that some suppliers will accept an international driver's licence with valid photo card or identification, but again, this will be dependent on the policy they have set out, so you should read all information carefully before you book.
For those who do not yet hold a licence, there is also our range of Provisional Licence Driving Experiences, where those aged 17 and up who either hold their provisional licence or none at all can drive specific cars at venues across the UK.
For some driving experiences, in particular, ones such as our Ariel Atom or Formula 1 driving vouchers, you will also be required to wear protective gear and equipment. This includes items such as helmets, protective gloves and clothing such as overalls - and many of our suppliers will provide these on the day.
However, in the case of most driving packages, you will usually not need to dress specifically for the experience, other than to wear casual, comfortable clothing, as well as closed-toe shoes that are suitable for driving in.
As many of our driving venues are open-air, and run in all weathers (unless in exceptional circumstances), you are advised to dress accordingly for the weather, so i.e. a warmer jacket when it's cold, and to bring sun cream and sunglasses or a hat when it's hot.
The overall takeaway from this guide is to make sure you read through all the information on the voucher you want to purchase carefully regarding minimum or maximum requirements before you make your booking.
