Retirees are revving up the fast-paced action - News

  • Retirement gifts are one of the fastest growing experience sectors
  • Bookings up 20% in last year alone despite lockdown and economic uncertainty
  • Classic car packages are most popular TrackDays packages for retirees

Retirement gifts are now one of the fastest growing gift experience sectors, with classic car packages being the most popular.

Bookings here on TrackDays.co.uk have increased by 20% over the last year, despite the economic uncertainty and lockdown.

Leading the charge are classic car driving packages, which include Jaguar E-Types, Mk 1 Ford Escorts and Mini Coopers.

Away from the four-wheeled action, tasting experiences are the second most popular retirement gift, followed by a day out experience.

Dan Jones, operations manager at TrackDays.co.uk, said: "Retirement gifts are increasing in popularity, up considerably over the last year, possibly as a result of the growth in the gift experience market."

"A classic car driving experience is an obvious choice, and its popularity is reflected in the number of bookings we receive."

Indeed, various studies have shown an increase in gift experiences in recent years, as shoppers search for something different. Millennials are leading this charge, whether it’s as a gift for themselves or for somebody else, such as a retirement gift.

Meanwhile, even though we here at TrackDays offer a plethora of driving experiences, it is actually tasting experiences, including chocolate, cheese, wine and beer tasting, that are currently the second most popular retirement gifts.

Days out, such as afternoon tea, walking and photography tours or river cruises, are also performing much better than expected, considering the current obstacles.

Dan added: "The pattern of retirement gift bookings indicates that there’s no holding back, and that retirees are being given the opportunity to enjoy life to the full, no matter the circumstances."

Suggestions for other retirement gifts include cookery lessons, flying lessons and even tank driving. To view our full range of Retirement Gift ideas, and book from available dates and open gift vouchers, head to our dedicated Retirement Gifts page on the TrackDays website.
