Exciting news has been announced from Renault inside the last week for hot hatch lovers, as they have confirmed its supremely powered 5 Turbo 3E model is to enter a forthcoming production run at their plant in Dieppe in Normandy next year.
The first ever electric powered version of their long running and signature Turbo model, it is set to arrive in a limited edition run in 2025, which is to be a hand-built, roadgoing version of the model as opposed to its more familiar high-performance version.
Made from a carbon-fibre monocoque superstructure, it is powered on a 100% electric drive train, offering out 500 bhp and acceleration from 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds, with their launch statement proclaiming that it is set to "reimagine the legend with bold exuberance, delivering ultimate thrills".
Crucially, for the 5 Turbo 3E, it will also have a rear-wheel drive, where the two in-wheel electric motors that power the drive train are located, which in itself is a nod back to the rear-wheel drive formation on the original 5 Turbo model.
In fact, boasting such phenomenal speed and power stats puts it on a par with that of many supercars such as the ones that are available on our Supercar Driving Experiences, not to mention it's incredibly sporty looks and design, it's understandable why this announcement has generated so much hype amongst the motoring community inside the last week.
However, as touched on above, Renault have stated that it will be a limited production run - and they are very much keeping shtum at this stage about exactly when this will start and when it will be available to order. Naturally, as you might expect, the price tag is expected to be north of £100,000.
