It's that time of the year again, the birds are tweeting, and besotted hearts are penning love letters to those who have stolen theirs.
While we are all feeling loved up, here in the TrackDays office, we started considering what the most romantic roads and routes would be in Europe to take our better halves on for a once-in-a-lifetime gesture.
So, for you star crossed lovers out there, get your route planners out as we provide you with five scenic routes which are sure to take your breath away and make both your hearts skip a beat…
The Strada Statale Amalfitana, also known as Amalfi Drive, is a winding coastal road that takes you up the west of Italy between Sorrento and Salerno, past picturesque towns, and pastel colour painted villages like Positano and Ravello, nicknamed by many as the 'Blue Highway'.
The road is also a UNESCO World Heritage site and, due to the Mediterranean sun, can be enjoyed throughout the year. It's been featured in countless movies including "Under the Tuscan Sun" and "Only You", starring a very young Robert Downey Jr. What's more, you're guaranteed to get some of the best pizza there is!
This route will take in the twisting and turning roads that the French Alps are renowned for, offering breathtaking views of snow capped peaks and alpine meadows. Covering over 435 miles of tarmac, the route takes in four national parks as well as 17 mountain passes.
Unfortunately, the road is closed during the winter due to its high-altitude passes but there are moments throughout the spring, summer and autumn seasons when the tourists disappear, and you can find yourself on your own for long stretches of road, over these high altitude passes. It's a popular route for motorcyclists, but it's just as beautiful on four wheels too.
Norway is renowned for its extreme scenery and what better than to take in what the Norwegian's have to offer than journeying on the Atlantic Road. Featuring a series of innovative and beautiful bridges, each one showcasing the best of Norwegian architecture which all blend seamlessly into the landscape.
This road can be experienced during both the sun kissed midnight sun summers and the foam-sprayed, cold winter days. Each season will offer you both unique perspectives on the power of humans and nature.
We felt that we will come back closer to home for our final two offerings, and where better to start than the North Coast 500 (NC500). This route takes in Scotland's jaw dropping landscapes, including the rugged coastline of the northwest, the rolling hills of the Scottish Highlands and the historic castle of Inverness.
Like Norway's Atlantic Coast route, we feel the NC500 offers different viewpoints throughout the year for loved-up drivers to feast their eyes upon.
Our final destination is routed through the Peak District National Park in England. With plenty of rolling hills, quaint villages and historic landmarks to soak in on these quiet roads, the Peak District is not to be snubbed at – especially those golden hour moments in the evening. Two particular roads to include in your planning would be the Cat 'n' Fiddle and Snake Pass. Just watch out for stray sheep.
So next on our list, what would be the car we would take out onto the roads? Well if we had our own way, then it would have to be a classic Aston Martin DB5 to help us channel our inner James Bond feeling of sophistication.
If you're in a rush and can't quite get out to any of these routes, at TrackDays.co.uk we offer a range of Classic Car Driving Experiences and Road Tours Experiences, as well as other romantic Driving Experiences for Two drives which would be perfect for Valentine's Day Gift Ideas.
