10 Year Olds Take To The Track To Perfect Their Driving Skills - News

  • A record number of young drivers took to the track in 2022 with people aged 10 - 16 now accounting for more than a quarter of all track day bookings
  • With the cost of learning to drive, soaring to an average of £1,500, learning basic car control can pay dividends for young drivers
  • With one in five new drivers crashing during their first year of driving due to inexperience, learning to drive before the age of 17 could help reduce accident figures

New yearly booking data from us here at TrackDays reveals that more than a quarter of all our driving experience sales last year were for young drivers aged 10 – 16 years old.

Indeed, our latest booking data also shows that the most popular package was exclusively designed for people under the age of 17, which was our Junior Triple Supercar Drive with High Speed Passenger Ride, which sees youngsters aged 10 - 16 take to the wheel of three supercars including Aston Martin, Ferrari, and Porsche to perfect their driving skills in safe, controlled race tracks environments around the country.

The news comes after recent warnings from the DVSA (Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency) that learner drivers may have to wait up to six months to take their driving test.

Furthermore, with the current cost of learning to drive rising to an average of £1,500*, taking to the track and getting a head start through the young driving experiences can give budding motorists an advantage when they start their learning with their lowest package costing only £20.

Dan Jones, Operations Manager at TrackDays.co.uk said: "With the current inflation issues we're all battling, coupled with DVLA strikes, it's encouraging to see young drivers being so proactive with their own learning."

With data also showing that one in five drivers crash their car during their first year of driving**, it is hoped that the more exposure drivers can get, in a safe and controlled environment, the more likely these figures can drop even further.

Jones concludes, "Ultimately, we want to see less accidents on our roads. Our range of junior supercar experiences are a unique thrill but they're delivered in an educational way so that youngsters understand what a car can do. You need to be alert and aware of your surroundings when in these cars, so it helps ground that lesson straight away."
