Despite the latest SMMT data demonstrating new car sales of electric vehicles is up 40% on 2021's volume, the UK's obsession with petrol fuelled supercars still leads the way for adrenaline junkies as they head back to the track following two years of disruptions.
In fact from our TrackDays booking data for last year, the Lamborghini Gallardo has taken the crown as being the nation's favourite supercar with it coming comfortably in first place when compared to all of our individual car bookings during 2022.
The Gallardo, which can hit a top speed of 202 mph and reach 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds, just managed to beat the Audi R8 to the top spot followed closely by Japan's Nissan GTR.
This recent release shows a change in fortune for the Italian luxury car maker as they left 2021's winner, Ferrari in their rear view mirror, with the 'Prancing Horse' not having any car featured in our top 5.
Dan Jones, Operating Manager at TrackDays.co.uk, says: "With the Gallardo celebrating its 20th year anniversary in 2023, our customer booking data demonstrates just how popular the car is with those wanting to get out onto the track in a supercar. All things point to the Gallardo having another stunning year out on our tracks."
"The Gallardo is what everyone associates a supercar should look like, and the power it provides under the bonnet is the epitome of what a supercar should be able to deliver on the track. You know that a Gallardo will excite you, as well as get the adrenaline pumping."
However, the Audi R8 did run the competition close and will hope that, with 2023 being the final year of production for the car, all the hype that will surround its final lap could boost it into the top spot for supercar lovers the world over!
Meanwhile, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Britain's answer to Europe's competition offering, continued to win over the UK's hearts with it putting in a strong performance and coming fourth overall.
Jones concluded, "It's really good news that Brits continue to love homegrown talent, and what better to celebrate the best of British than driving a V8 Vantage around a track. We expect the Aston Martin's to do well in 2023 as the car company starts celebrating their 110th year anniversary."
"With the cost of owning these supercars out of the reach for the majority of the public, being able to get behind the wheel and put them through their paces without having to fork out big sums of cash is an attractive proposition for UK thrill seekers."
