Latest government figures that have just been released today show there were 814* collisions on Great Britain's roads where panicky motorists were a contributory factor.
The alarming information from the Department for Transport underlines the need for more motorists to be confident behind the wheel.
However, today on Trackdays we can say that the good news is that the long-term pattern shows a year-on-year decrease, with the number of reported road collisions where a nervous, uncertain or panicked driver or rider was a contributory factor.
In 2013 it stood at 1,774 collisions, but just ten years later the number has almost halved.
Dan Jones, operations manager at TrackDays.co.uk, says: "It's welcome news to see that these sorts of collisions appear to be reducing over time."
"Yet, one collision which might have been avoided is one too many, so we'd urge any motorist who is unsure while driving to consider ways to boost their confidence."
Methods to increase belief behind the wheel include practising regularly, knowing the vehicle and its controls, learning to relax and taking an advanced driving course.
Other ways include specific experiences, such as driving on a skid pan or learning to drive from a very young age on a circuit, that can be booked online.
Dan adds: "There are many ways to build up driving confidence and, whichever way vehicle owners choose to do it, has to be encouraged."
"For instance, one of our Driving Lessons courses we offer is aimed purely at safer driving, and includes different modules such as accident avoidance, lane changing, driving in wet weather and snow and ice driving."
"It is informative and educational while providing drivers with invaluable driving skills that are vital in real life driving conditions."
