More-and-more frustrated UK motorists suffering some of the world's worst traffic congestion are getting behind the wheel of supercars capable of more than 200 mph.
Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Porsches are proving to be the most popular models for driving experiences with leading provider www.trackdays.co.uk as it reports a 149 per cent year-to-date increase in bookings for these sporty models.
Its surge in bookings for fast cars is in direct contrast to slower driving conditions for many motorists.
And it's not just in large cities where drivers are facing delays, as recent figures from the Department for Transport show that motorists using motorways and A roads in England faced a 9.4-second average delay per vehicle per mile in 2018, up 3.9 per cent on 2017.
The average speed had also fallen on local A roads to 24.9 mph in 2018, a 1.3 per cent decrease on the previous year.
Dan Jones, Project Manager at TrackDays, said: "TrackDays.co.uk offers a wide range of vehicles for driving experiences, from classic cars to HGV trucks, but our fastest cars are by far the most popular. In fact, we've seen a huge increase in bookings of nearly 150 per cent year-to-date.
"Perhaps it is no surprise given that the UK is one of the most congested countries in the world where it's hard to go faster than 10 mph in many gridlocked cities, and not much faster on A-roads and motorways!"
While London is the most congested city, other cities are hot on its heels including Manchester and Liverpool in the north of England, Birmingham in the West Midlands, Leicester and Nottingham in the East Midlands, plus Brighton and Southampton on the south coast.
Dan added: "The UK has always been a world-beater and we're raising the bar once more as London leads the charge as being one of the most gridlocked cities on the planet!
"Whether it's battling congestion in a city, or going at a snail's pace on a motorway, who can blame beleaguered motorists for wanting to swap a traffic jam for an adrenalin-fuelled blast around a race circuit."
Among the tracks available for a supercar driving experience are Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Donington Park and Snetterton.
