With the summer blockbuster season having just drawn to a close, and the shorter days creeping in with the arrival of autumn, we felt it was the perfect time to look back at those movies that really gripped petrol heads and where cars were truly centre stage.
While an award for the 'Best Motoring Themed Movie' from the Hollywood elite is still a piece of fiction, here at TrackDays.co.uk, we think these epic depictions all deserve a standing ovation.
Firing straight off the line is the star-studded heist that is Gone in 60 Seconds (2000). With movie stars Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie at the top of the billboard it would be easy to assume that the two would steal the show. However, the vast array of spectacular cars on display truly took centre stage.
With a list that would make any car enthusiast sit back and admire the beauty of what was on display. Popular names like the Aston Martin DB7, Lamborghini Diablo SE30 and Ferrari Testarossa were amongst the 50 cars Memphis (Cage) had to steal in order to save his brother.
But it was the final car on the list, the 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500, that was the true showstopper that took everyone's breath away. The GT500 features in our Triple Mustang Thrill experience that you can book at venues across the UK.
The Fast and Furious franchise may now have nine movies in the bank, but we felt that homage should be paid to the original that started it all off.
This movie, with its backdrop centred around the modified car scene, exploded noisily onto our screens at just the right moment and kicked off a whole new era of modified, supercharged cars.
Pitching Brian O'Conner's (Paul Walker) 1994 Toyota Supra against Toretto's (Vin Diesel) 1970 Dodge Charger in the final drag race was a truly white-knuckle ride which left many whooping and hollering, begging for more – which they duly delivered with plenty of sequels - and it doesn't look like they will end anytime soon with Fast X due in 2023.
At TrackDays, we give you a chance to live the Fast and Furious experience with our own dedicated package which is the Triple Fast and Furious Blast with High Speed Passenger Ride.
You cannot deny that this movie is not worth a revisit, if not for the classic minis nipping their way through the streets of Turin, but purely to recount Sir Michael Caine's famous line: "You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!"
This cult classic is always a fan favourite, and it could be argued the Fast and Furious franchise owes a lot to the overall legacy that this fun motoring movie left behind.
Blast around a track like you're trying to get away from the cops on TrackDays.co.uk's own Mini Cooper S Blast.
This dystopian reboot follows in the footsteps of its predecessors with monstrous vehicles being front and centre in the battle for survival.
Featuring stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, the desperate world created by director George Miller is not one anyone would like to attempt to navigate, but it is the roaring vehicular creations of each clan – coupled with live-action stunts not dominated by CGI - which truly keep movie-goers screaming for more.
Although this movie is not purely based around motor vehicles, we felt we had to find a way to give a nod to the DeLorean DMC-12 featured in Back to the Future.
Famous for transporting Marty McFly to various time zones over three separate movies, the original and iconic DeLorean has now been restored to its former glory and sits in the Petersen Automotive Museum in California for all to reminisce about.
