Fascinated by Owls and based in West Yorkshire? This illuminating Owl Encounter experience, hosted at an outdoor aviary centre in Pontefract, will get you closer to them than ever before! Your two hour experience will be spent with the owls' owner, breeder, trainer and feeder, Kira, who is incredibly passionate about them and the other birds of prey that are in her care. She has a very gentle disposition and it's evident from the moment you meet her what a unique bond she has with the owls and how this comes across in their working relationship. Kira has a mixture of both captive bred owls, and rescued owls who she has helped nurse back to full health (she actually studied raptor rehabilitation in South Africa, so she is very knowledgeable on this). Amongst the owls you'll meet on this exclusive session, which you'll also get the opportunity to fly, handle and feed are Tilly the Barn Owl, Bungle the Eagle Owl and Libby, the African Spotted Eagle Owl. You'll learn lots about them too on what promises to be a feather ruffling experience of fun!

Owl Encounter

  • Fly handle and feed a range of owls including; Barn owls, African spotted eagle owls and European eagle owls
  • Allow two hours for this experience

  • Minimum age 12
  • Under 16s must be accompanied by a participating adult

  • Spectators are welcome for a small additional charge payable on the day
  • £5 per person for the handling and owl encounters

Minimum Age: 12 years

  • Selected weekdays and weekends
  • All experiences are subject to weather conditions and availability

  • Suitable outdoor clothing and footwear should be worn

Brilliant experience. Kira was very knowledgable and friendly. Her birds were beautiful characters. It was a hot day for the birds so they were unwilling to fly far but they did fly to us and happily sat on our arms while we chatted and fed them. We'll definitely do this again.

The bird of prey experience was ok. The problem wasnt kira the handeling lady. It was the weather. The birds were too hot. We only had an hour and no flying because of the heat. A bit dissapointing really. But i dont know how it cud have been sorted because noone cant change the weather.
