She is an incredibly passionate falconer who has built an amazing relationship with her raptors. Witnessing her work with the birds is truly captivating. At Pontefract, you will meet an assortment of birds, including Libby the African Spotted Eagle Owl, Bungle the Eagle Owl, Tilly the Barn Owl, Kobie the Harris Hawk, and even Geoff the Hawk, who has a special story to tell. Kira has also rescued and nursed back to health some raptors. She studied raptor rehabilitation in South Africa before returning to her native West Yorkshire to set up her aviaries. This falconry centre is open all year round, and Kira offers exclusive sessions for individuals or small groups of up to five. You will learn a lot, hear some nice anecdotes, and even get to actively fly these stunning creatures to your hand. Hawk Walk:

  • Head out on a hawk walk through woodland and local countryside with your very own Harris Hawk
  • You will have full control of the hawk with a falconer on hand for advise and to answer questions
  • Allow 2-2.25 hours for this experience

  • Minimum age 12
  • Under 16s must be accompanied by a participating adult

  • Selected weekdays and weekends
  • All experiences are subject to weather conditions and availability

Minimum Age: 12 years

  • Suitable outdoor clothing and footwear should be worn
  • Spectators are welcome for a small additional charge payable on the day
  • £10 per person for the hawk walk and the half day falconry
