Westfield’s range of sports cars, calling back to the iconic styling of the original Lotus cars built by Colin Chapman, are instantly recognisable, and the Westfield 1600 Sport is no exception. Like their spiritual forebears, their key design principle is that of lightness then performance.
Though produced as something of a direct rival to Caterham, who bought out Lotus back in 1973, there is a multitude of enjoyments to be had in this superb kit-car which, whilst having track performance engineering in mind, equally comes into its own out on the main roads.
The 1600 Sport is kitted out with a BGH Geartec 5 speed gearbox and a 1600cc Sigma engine, delivering some impressive performance stats; it generates a creditable 192 bhp, helping it accelerate from 0 - 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, and you can expect to reach top speeds of around 130 mph once behind the wheel.
Cool Facts About the Westfield 1600 Sport
The motoring press were, on the whole, positive about the arrival of the Westfield 1600 Sport back in 2009. Vicky Parrott, writing for Autocar magazine said that it was ‘Always fun … [but] the most striking difference on an initial drive up the road is how much more comfortable it is … [it has] a turbocharged power delivery for such a lightweight car.’
EVO magazine also praised it, awarding it 4/5 in their review, saying ‘It’s very quick and composed … and in what must be a first for a car of this type, the steering column is adjustable for reach and rake, ensuring you can get the driving position just about perfect.’
