As the year turns the corner towards long days and warmer weather, there's never been a better excuse for those with two wheels to get out on their trusty chopper and hit the open road for the weekend (not that they usually need much convincing in our experience, anyway). So, with summer fast approaching, we've dug out our A-Z map of the country and invite you now to take a look at five of the best scenic routes the UK has to offer motorcyclists everywhere, from Cornwall to the Cairngorms and all in between...

  • The Lake District

Few other places in the British Isles can compare with the tranquil beauty and outstanding natural surroundings of the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, with its many lakes and mountains and rolling valleys offering the ideal day trip on two wheels.

  • South Downs

Starting from Box Hill in Surrey, winding your way past historic country piles like Petworth House and cathedrals in Winchester and Salisbury down to the famous Café Corsa in Wimborne in Dorset, this will be the only way to explore the South Downs on a weekend.

  • Snowdonia National Park

The first of Wales' National Parks to be designated as such, Snowdonia covers an area of around 2130km², including the Snowdon, Glyderau and Craneddau peaks that will prove a test to the mettle of many a motorcyclist.

  • The North Coast 500

Colloquially referred to as Scotland's version of Route 66, the North Coast 500 takes, as the name might suggest, a route of around 500 miles, taking in the rugged Scottish coastline from its starting point in Inverness, to Thurso and Wick via the charming villages of Ullapool and Gairloch.

  • The Cotswolds

For those after a more gentle, peaceful experience on their chopper, the designated National Landscape of the Cotswolds, with its sandstone buildings and pretty chocolate box towns and villages such as Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold and Moreton-in-Marsh has plenty for motorcyclists to explore.
