The Jaguar E-Type was one of the most successful and beautiful cars to come from the post-war boom in sports car manufacturing and export to the United States. The huge numbers of GI's based in the UK over the war had developed a taste for the British built MG TC, which spawned later imports such as Jaguar XK 120, Aston martin DB2 and the Jaguar E-Type.

The top speed of 150mph was something of a breakthrough with many sports cars of the time having a top speed some 50mph less. Built in Coventry the 3.8-litre engine could power elegant sports car to 60mph in just 6.4 seconds. The manufacture owed much to the racing pedigree of the Le Mans winning D-Type and so impressed were Ferrari that it was proclaimed 'The most beautiful car ever made.'
