Over the course of the day, you’ll visit more than 15 iconic spots featured in the much-loved detective series. DCI Vera Stanhope is far from your typical detective. Gruff and seemingly aloof at first, she hides a deep loyalty to her team and an unshakeable commitment to solving cases. With her battered old Land Rover, scruffy mac and trusty rain hat, she may not look the part – but her sharp mind and intuition always get results. The series follows her investigations from Northumberland & City Police HQ to crime scenes scattered across moody moorlands, remote farmhouses, windswept beaches and busy fishing ports. Each backdrop adds to the drama and atmosphere of the stories. Based on the novels of crime writer Ann Cleeves, who lives in Whitley Bay, the show makes full use of Northumberland’s rugged beauty. The filming locations are chosen with care, showcasing the region’s character and charm on screen. Departing Newcastle city centre, your tour will take in destinations such as Amble, Warkworth, Alnmouth and the majestic Bamburgh. There’ll be plenty of stops along the way, giving you time to stretch your legs, soak up the scenery and snap photos. One of the standout moments is a trip to Lindisfarne island, where you can see Vera’s atmospheric, isolated home.
