Discover the magic of the Scottish mountains in winter with this two-day Introduction to Winter Skills course. Perfect for beginners, this hands-on experience will teach you the essential techniques to explore snowy and icy terrain more confidently and safely. Based in either Fort William, beneath Ben Nevis, or Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park, you'll spend two full days learning practical skills out on the mountain. On day one, you will learn how to choose the right winter equipment, practise essential ice axe and crampon techniques, and develop your understanding of moving safely across snow and ice. You will also gain an introduction to winter navigation and avalanche awareness, helping you prepare for the challenges of winter mountaineering. Day two puts your new skills into practice as you explore more varied terrain and tackle longer routes under the guidance of your experienced instructor. With small groups of just 3–6 participants, you'll benefit from personalised instruction, practical experience and valuable feedback throughout. By the end of the course, you will have a solid foundation in winter mountain skills to build on as you continue your outdoor adventures. Whether you're keen to explore snow-covered landscapes or prepare for future mountain challenges, this course is the perfect place to start.
