Head to Portsmouth for a day that's all about beer, learning, and, of course, a few well-earned pints. This full-day brewery experience is the perfect way to see behind the scenes of a working brewhouse and discover just how much skill and ingenuity goes into making a truly great craft beer. The day kicks off at 10am with a nice cuppa and a quick introduction to what's ahead, before you dive straight into the first stage of brewing, known as mashing in. You'll mix milled grains with water in a mash tun and get to watch the magic happen as it heats up. While that's doing its thing, there's time to try your first craft beer (or a few) and have a snack, all while your professional brewer explains what's happening in the mash tun.
Once the mash in is complete, you'll move on to the transfer, re-circ, and sparging stages, with guidance every step of the way, so don't worry if the terms sound a bit baffling at first. By now, it's lunchtime, and we think you've earned a proper pint while you take a break and soak it all in. After lunch, it's time for the boil, adding hops and kettle finings to the mix, and seeing the final stages of your brew come together. The day wraps up around five o'clock with a bit of clean-up, and then you're free to head home or, if you're still feeling sprightly, nip back to the pub for one last well-deserved craft beer.
Every participant leaves with a certificate and a 5L mini-keg of the beer you've brewed to collect in about two weeks once it's fully fermented, or you can choose a mini-keg of another Brewhouse and Kitchen favourite to take away the same day. Whether you're a dedicated beer fan or looking for a unique gift for someone who loves a proper pint, this Portsmouth brewery experience is a brilliant way to spend the day, learn a bit, drink a bit, and leave with something you've created yourself.
