Those based in Hertfordshire who are enchanted by the nocturnal kings of birds of prey, the owl, will be in their element on this wonderful Owl Encounter experience! Westmill Farm, nestled in the heart of the Rib Valley, which is adjacent to Welwyn and Harlow, is the home to a parliament of many varieties of owls, looked after by Charlotte and her dad, John. And over the course of your two hour experience with them, you'll meet all different species of owls, and their many unique personalities and characteristics. From Ouzo, a Siberian Eagle Owl that's a hunting ace, to the irresistible heart shaped face of James the Barn Owl, and the wittily named Earl the Great Grey Owl to Saki, the hand reared Brown Asian Wood Owl, you'll be taken in by their big eyes and ability to turn their heads to 270 degrees - and what an advantage this, along with their good hearing, gives them as carnivores hunting for their prey. And as well as hearing more about their habits and their history, you'll also get an opportunity to handle them. When you slip on the falconer's glove for the first time, you'll get to see just how amazing these incredible creatures are up close. They're actually surprisingly calm and relaxed around humans, and may even have a little squawk whilst posing for a picture with you!
