Get stuck into the world of Falconry with this Half Day Experience for One at a centre in Northumberland National Park. Situated close to the village of Wark in between Carlisle and Newcastle, you’ll find this centre surrounded by beautiful countryside where instructors are endlessly passionate about birds of prey and passing that onto others. As part of your half day experience, you will really step into the shoes of a Falconer for that time as you learn how to pick up the birds, weigh and handle them but also get to grips with the essential equipment such as jesses, gauntlet, lures, anklets, all of which a falconer would not be seen without! Most importantly, you’ll be shown the quick release hitch knot that fastens the birds to your wrist in preparation for flying. Learning from the best, and some of the most enthusiastic instructors around, if you haven’t before, by the end of this experience you’ll definitely have picked up a passion for everything birds of prey! With a small ratio of 2:1 for instructors and participants you will gain a real insight into falconry whilst enjoying the incredible countryside views all around. This award winning centre is also home to strays, injured birds and orphans which are looked after through the breeding program on site - which your instructor is bound to tell you about.
