You’ll work with high-quality carbon steel using traditional techniques, involving heating the metal and shaping it with a hammer. The rewarding process culminates in creating your own hand-forged knife. Enjoy a friendly atmosphere with snacks, lunch, and drinks provided while you forge your creation. This all-inclusive workshop, located between Bakewell and Matlock, supplies all necessary materials, protective gear, and tools, along with expert coaching from your enthusiastic hosts.

  • The blade is kept blunt for you to sharpen at home (contacts can be provided for professional sharpening)

General Itinerary

  • 09:30 Meet in the forge for a health and safety talk
  • 10:00 Light the fires and first demonstration
  • 11:00 Break time with pork pie (or alternatives) and drinks
  • 13:00 Well deserved lunch
  • 15:30 On the go break with drinks
  • 16:30 Forges off

  • Minimum age 18

  • Selected weekdays and weekends throughout the year
  • Courses start at 09:30 finishing around 16:30
  • Dates are subject to availability

Location:

  • Bakewell, Derbyshire

Minimum Age: 18 years

  • Jeans, T-shirt and jumper are recommended (no fleece)
  • Suitable sturdy footwear should be worn, ie Steel toe-capped boots or walking boots
  • Jewellery should not be worn
  • Long hair must be tied back
  • Guests are welcome to come along and watch - please make this known when making your booking
