Looking to learn gliding near York? This great value Glider Mini Course lesson, at Rufforth Airfield, should be the perfect starting point for you. The friendly and vibrant York Gliding Club is based at this former WWII RAF airfield just outside the city centre, where you'll be learning to glide over two aerotows at up to 2500ft. With two tarmac and two grass runways on the western side of the airfield, its location is ideally positioned 20 miles east of the Pennines, where many gliders in the area come seeking the famous 'Pennine wave' of thermals to help them get airborne. For those who love a serene and silent flight, it's a must-visit destination. Those as young as 14 years old can take part in this experience, and it's available to book all year round!
