Gin lovers, this one’s for you. Tucked away in the village of Tittensor, Staffordshire, there’s a charming old schoolhouse where you can spend ninety minutes discovering everything you ever wanted to know about your favourite spirit. Once inside, you’ll be greeted by one of the resident gin tutors and taken on a little wander through the building, which dates back to 1861 when it was built by the Duke of Sutherland. From there it’s straight into the good stuff: tasting a range of different gins, including those distilled right there on site. You’ll learn how to pick out the flavours of the botanicals, and how to match them up with the right tonic, mixer or garnish to make your drink sing. Along the way, your tutor will share some of the fascinating history behind gin’s rather mischievous nickname, ‘mother’s ruin’, and you’ll be encouraged to ask as many questions as you like. This relaxed and indulgent masterclass makes a brilliant gift for anyone who enjoys a G&T, or simply a fun afternoon for yourself – because really, who needs an excuse to drink gin?
