Learn to work livestock on an Exclusive Border Collie Experience for Two, offering a unique insight into how humans and canines work together on a real working farm. Border Collies are exceptional sheepdogs, celebrated for their intelligence, energy and skill. This private Leicestershire experience is led by internationally renowned Border Collie trainer, handler and author Nij Vyas. Competing in sheepdog trials since 1992, Nij brings decades of hands-on expertise alongside his highly trained dogs. In 2017, Nij and his dog Todd were part of the England team that won gold at the World Sheepdog Trials in the Netherlands, showcasing the impressive level of training you will witness. Your day begins by meeting the dogs and learning about their role in modern farming. You will see how young dogs are trained, discover how whistle commands work and watch the dogs respond with remarkable precision. You will soon realise shepherding isn’t as easy as it looks, as sheep scatter quickly without skilled handling. By the end of the experience, you and your guest may even try giving basic commands yourselves, such as flanking, stopping or gathering sheep – making it a truly memorable day on the farm.

What's Included

  • Learn the traditional art of shepherding with Nij Vyas and his skilled team of sheepdogs
  • Arrival and welcome with coffee and cake
  • Meet the sheepdogs and learn about their roles
  • Watch a live demonstration of sheepdog skills
  • Take part in hands-on training sessions with an experienced dog trainer
  • Learn how to use a sheepdog whistle (time permitting)
  • Please allow approximately 4.5 hours onsite
  • Courses run from 10:00 to 14:30, with a break for lunch (not included)

Suitable For

  • Exclusive experience: No minimum age. This experience isn't really suitable for babies or toddlers. It can be a long day for children, so often the summer time is best if children are attending (Under 18's need to be accompanied by an adult on site)
  • A good, general level of fitness is required
