Knifemaking courses in Cheshire! Discover the traditional art of blacksmithing as you hand-forge your very own Blacksmith’s knife and Chef’s knife during this one-day workshop at an authentic forge in Ellesmere Port. You will be welcomed by artisan blacksmith Alex, a skilled heritage craftsman who uses traditional forging techniques to create everything from large metalwork pieces to handcrafted blades. During the workshop, you will create two knives, each with a forged metal blade and handle. Classes are limited to just five students, giving everyone their own hearth and plenty of hands-on guidance. Alex will demonstrate each stage of the process as you transform steel blanks into unique, fully functional knives. There’s something incredibly satisfying about heating steel in the fire, working it over the anvil and watching your knives gradually take shape. It’s a physical and rewarding experience, with two handcrafted blades to show for your hard work. Your knifemaking experience takes place in Alex’s authentic Victorian workshop, dating back to 1885 and located within the National Waterways Museum on the south pier of Ellesmere Port. Immerse yourself in traditional knifemaking in Cheshire and, best of all, take both of your handcrafted knives home with you.
