This unique experience offers the opportunity for you and a loved one to get an insight into the life of a blacksmith and learn the art of forging steel at this day’s Blacksmithing workshop for two, where you’ll also be making a few pieces to take home with you. A former master farrier, Colin now makes bespoke forged pieces and he will be your host for the day at his forge in the village of Scorton, Lancashire - easily accessible from Lancaster and Preston. He’s a highly experienced blacksmith and craftsman, and very much Lancashire through and through. But he’s also a very patient and straightforward tutor in terms of explaining the techniques of blacksmithing - very beneficial when you’re coming at it from a novice’s perspective. His well equipped workshop has coke and gas-fired forges, welding gear, power hammer and fly press - all ready for you to heat up the steel in the flames and get it red hot and ready to shape. In terms of what you’ll make, you can either take inspiration from what’s in Colin’s portfolio of decorative and practical items, or if it’s achievable, you could incorporate your own unique design. You’ll usually come away with either two or three completed pieces, including everything from ash scrapers and bottle openers, to ornamental knives or decorative hanging baskets for the garden. All in all, you and your friend, family member or loved one can expect a warm friendly welcome and the best introduction to blacksmithing possible from very experienced hands.
