Hawking Half Day

  • The day starts at 9:30 for coffee
  • Guests are introduced to the falconers, who will give instructions regarding the safety procedures required for handling the birds, and it is important that these guidelines are followed correctly.
  • All guests will learn some of the skills necessary for successful hunting and quarrying, including rabbit, pheasant and other games.
  • You will then be introduced to your Hawk before leaving the centre for a short walk to the Hawking site for the day.
  • At all times, you will be under the supervision of a falconer
  • You will experience the thrill of the chase when hunting quarry using a team of Harris Hawks, which work well together with both each other and man
  • All the specialised equipment you will need is provided

  • The centre has a large selection of birds on display and provides demonstrations in the art of falconry at selected times during the day, which friends or family are welcome to enjoy for a small admission charge.
  • There is a large picnic area and shop selling gifts, teas and coffee
  • Refreshments can also be obtained at the activity farm

  • Over 14 years of age
  • Please wear dark country-style clothing and stout shoes, but please bring along Wellington boots and waterproof clothes in case of wet weather
  • All specialised equipment will be provided

Minimum Age: 14 years

  • The centre can arrange accommodation or suggest places to stay upon request.

  • Two-hour courses run throughout the year
  • Half-day hawking courses run between October 1st and February 28th
  • All courses are weather-permitting
