Overview
Why buy from us?
Explore the captivating world of beekeeping by joining a course in Kent! The Garden of England is the perfect place to learn about beekeeping. You will join a small group and discover the life and work of these fascinating creatures at Fort Amherst in Chatham. The beekeepers in Kent are passionate about their work, and their three-hour course is well worth it. During the session, your beekeeper host will explain and demonstrate the life cycle of bees and how a colony operates. Once you have put on your bee suit and gloves, it's time to head to the active beehive to observe what is happening. The roof and ceiling of the hive will be carefully lifted off to reveal the bee colony and assess its activities. Each member of the bee colony has a specific role to play, and they work together as a highly efficient team. They surround the brood nest with honey and pollen and bring in deliveries of fresh nectar collected from surrounding flowers. The Queen, who is the leader of the colony, is well protected by her loyal subjects and can be difficult to spot. The visit concludes with a delightful light lunch at the Pantry Café by the entrance of the Fort, and you can also take home a jar of delicious honey.
