The afternoon tea cruise in Oxford is a must-do activity for anyone visiting the city. The cruise takes you along the River Thames, giving you breathtaking views of the city's iconic landmarks. The best part is that these cruises operate on Edwardian-style launches that can seat up to 12 people, making it the perfect small and intimate affair for your afternoon tea afloat. Whether you're going solo, as a couple, a family, or a select group of friends, we have vouchers for one to twelve people.
Once onboard, you'll find cushioned seating at the front of the boat and a table at the bow end. The charming vessels have roof and side canopies, which keep you cool in the heat and cosy in less clement weather. What's more, these boats are electric, so you'll be gliding silently in an environmentally friendly fashion along the Thames!
Starting from the historic stone Folly Bridge, you will cruise past Christchurch Meadows and the university boat houses, arriving at Iffley Lock with its stone bridge and lock keeper's cottage. There's always a lot to see here, with punts, rowers, and many other water users having fun on this section of the Thames. You'll then pass by lovely meadowlands before reaching Rose Island, with its idyllic private house that was once the Swan Hotel. This tranquil little isle was a favourite spot of a certain local scholar Charles Dodgson, better known as Lewis Carroll. It's said to be one of many Oxford locations that inspired him to write Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
The boat will make a turn at this point and head back to Folly Bridge. Throughout your journey, the main sights and landmarks of Oxford will be pointed out to you. And all this while you enjoy afternoon tea, which is provided by the Folly, the waterside restaurant right next to the boat pier.
