Now you have the opportunity to adopt an elephant, with this thoughtfully curated gift tin which will directly help the work of the People's Trust for Endangered Species of these much loved wild animals in their protection and conservation in India. It's a sad but well known fact that elephants are endangered, both in Africa and in Asia. It's the Asian elephants you'll be supporting by purchasing one of these gift tins. Lots of breakthrough conservation work has been done over the years, most recently with the changing attitudes to and banning of the import and export of ivory from their tusks, and in the protection of their natural habitats. And the good news is, population numbers of Asian elephants have gone up - but there is still more work to be done. Namely, they have now outgrown their original reserve areas due to their increase in population, which puts them at risk of conflict with the local communities, who want to protect their agriculture. One project that the PTES are involved with at present is at the Mayurjharna Elephant Reserve, helping to map their migration routes and chart their seasonal movements, which they can then supply to the communities to help with advice on where and when to plant their crops. As you can see, it's a large amount of effort and work that is vital. But just by adopting an elephant, you'll be part of ensuring harmony and the securing of the well-being and future of both the elephants and human population in this area of India. Plus, there's a registration form for you to complete which, once you've filled it in and sent it off, you'll receive your personalised adoption certificate.
