While the airfields may differ, each session begins similarly - with a pre-flight safety briefing. Listen carefully, as your pilot instructor might say, ' And this is the T-bar shaped stick that controls which way the chopper goes" - important information! Once you're securely strapped in, the instructor will perform the final safety checks. If it's your first helicopter experience, you'll notice how noisy it is, and the initial takeoff will be memorable. You'll gradually lift off vertically for a few metres, then as the chopper leans forward, you'll accelerate into forward flight. After reaching cruising height and speed, your pilot will introduce the three basic helicopter controls, including the crucial cyclic, demonstrating how they work. Remember, these are 30-minute lessons, so you'll Get hands-on control! You'll learn about pitching the helicopter's nose up or down, rolling left or right, and using the collective to raise or lower altitude. Your feet will be on the rudder pedals to steer the direction. Managing a helicopter involves many controls! By the end of your flight, you'll see that helicopters are challenging to handle, but it's also lots of fun, especially with an experienced instructor by your side. All instructors have full dual controls, and with patient guidance, most students can gain some control within the 30 minutes.
