If you are a passionate history fan, or know someone who is, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to fly in a North American T6 Harvard warbird. Aviation enthusiasts will probably be aware of these fighter beasts, but if you’re not, the original T6 was built in 1943 and used as a training aeroplane as well as a fighter. In 1949 after the Second World War, this plane was upgraded to a T6-6 in 1949 where for a time it was used with the Haitian Air Force. Arriving back to the UK in 1989, this T6-6 was treated to a full refurbishment and its condition has remained top notch ever since. Not only will you get to experience a bit of history, but have a go at flying it too, as the pilot offers you the chance to learn the basic controls and fly yourself. With an ergonomic cockpit and the satisfying smell of hot oil all around, you’ll be swept back to the 1940s as you fly out of Kent or Essex. Most of us learn about history in school, or through reading books, but having the unique opportunity to fly a part of that elevates your understanding of it even more and makes it come alive. It’s safe to say once you’ve had this encounter with the Harvard, you won’t forget your experience any time soon, and may just become addicted to vintage flying. For history lovers, wannabe pilots or simply somebody who would like to try something new, this is the perfect experience for you.
