Paddleboarding and Stand Up Paddleboarding

We can hear you asking it already: what's the difference between the two when it comes to Paddleboarding Experiences? Well, for the avoidance of doubt, they're one and the same.

Although, if we're going to get semantical, then the crucial difference is that when you're laid down on the paddleboard, the movement is generated by your hands acting as paddles to move through the water, whereas when you're stood up, you're using a paddle that's a bit similar to an oar from a rowing boat to glide through the water. A SUP is short hand for 'Stand up Paddleboard'.

One thing they share in common is that you're on the paddleboard, which visually, is a bit like a surfboard, but is made of much thicker, longer and broader material - usually, but not exclusively, a high density foam - to help hold the weight of the rider and keep them buoyant for longer.

If you can't swim or have minimal experience on the water, that's OK - although it is definitely an advantage in terms of building your confidence in and on it! And you will wear a buoyancy aid for the duration of your session, which will help you stay afloat in case you end up off board at any stage!

But the likelihood of that happening - unless you are especially unstable and have difficulty staying on - is relatively unlikely after you've got used to the sensation of being on the board and staying balanced from kneeling and standing up, as it's more steady than you would imagine it to be.

What To Expect When You Go Paddleboarding

Usually for paddleboarding, you'll need to bring swimwear and a towel, as you'll usually be supplied with a wetsuit along with your safety equipment, paddleboard and paddle at the venue, where you'll also be able to store your valuables in changing rooms which have toilets, showers and lockers.

It's important to note here that some of the venues may apply a small fee for the hire of wetsuits. If that's the case, you'll usually find details about this on the relevant package, but if in doubt you can always get in touch with our Customer Service team, and they'll contact the supplier for you to run any queries you may have past them.

One of the great things about paddleboarding is that almost all of our experiences are priced either under £50 or under £100, so if you're looking for some Watersports Experiences which won't break the bank, they're a great option to pursue.

And what's more, unless the weather's really windy, it doesn't matter if it's a bit rainy or overcast on the day you go - you'll be out on the water anyway, so it's all part of the fun!

Where Can I Go Paddleboarding In The UK?

Almost all areas of the UK are covered with our selection of Paddleboard Experiences and Paddleboarding packages. From the tranquil and serene Hove Lagoon in East Sussex, to the River Avon in Warwickshire, to Hove Waterfront along the coast at Brighton and the Llangollen canal in North Wales.

Lakes and rivers are usually a better place for beginners to start learning how to paddle on, because they're a lot calmer and flatter on the whole, and the water's usually not more than a waist deep. Obviously as you build in confidence, you could progress to paddleboarding at sea.

If you're wondering if there's any paddleboarding experiences in London available, whilst there currently aren't any in the Capital, you can still venture outside the city to nearby counties to enjoy a taster session or group lesson. And provided you're not on any of the River Thames' busy shipping routes which are prohibited, you can also paddleboard on certain areas of the river when you're back home!

How To Book a Paddleboarding Experience

It couldn't be simpler to arrange and book your next Paddleboarding Experience with us here at TrackDays. All of our current available Paddleboarding packages you see above are available to book through open Gift Vouchers.

When you come to redeem and use your voucher, all you have to do is get in touch with our Customer Service team, and they'll in turn make contact with the supplier at the venue, who'll get back to you to confirm and make all the necessary arrangements!
