Restricted, A1 and ACU licences are all accepted for certain bike events at this venue. If attending a bike or car track day at Lydden Hill, all drivers/riders must make sure their vehicle meets the noise limit requirements. The noise limit at Lydden Hill is tested in two ways; there is a static noise test prior to the event which vehicles must pass the 100dB(A) limit. This is measured at a distance of 0.5 metres from the exhaust whilst the engine is revved at 3/4 of its max. Whilst out on track the drive-by noise is also monitored and the limit for that is 92dB(A).

Lydden Hill Track Days Information

One of the shorter track circuits in the UK, Lydden Hill Race Circuit is very popular with both competitors and spectators. The circuit is a challenge to stretch even the most seasoned driver, with a variety of bends, gradients and short straights to get to grips with.

Originally ¾ miles long, it was increased to 1 mile in length in 1967 when the hairpin was extended up Hairy Hill. The natural bowl of the track means spectators get an amazing view of the action where they chose to sit.

Founded in 1955 by Bill Chesson, the track was originally used for stock cars and grass track racing, with a tarmac surface and hosted car racing up to Formula 3 level introduced from 1965.

In 1967 the track hosted RallyCross driving on a combined grass/tarmac circuit. RallyCross is still one of the most popular events at Lydden Hill, and recently featured on BBC motoring show Top Gear where the presenters took part in a rallycross race.
