If you're pretty nifty with flying radio controlled model planes, and want to progress your flight skills further, there is no better place to hone your skills than at the home of the British Model Flying Association (BMFA). In the village of Buckminster in Leicestershire, set in 40 acres of countryside in close proximity to Melton Mowbray and Grantham, you've got the perfect environment and space to learn more complex flight techniques, under the guidance of your qualified training coach, Russ. He is passionate about flying planes - both the scaled down models and the real life ones - and also happens to be a qualified instructor and examiner in commercial aircraft flying too. He is passionate, patient and what he doesn't know about flying model planes isn't worth knowing. In your advanced training, you'll learn how to really stretch your wings, as you attempt to tackle and master some ambitious aerobatic manoeuvres with your model plane! Also on site at the BMFA, there's a well stocked RC model museum, the Flyers' Cafe, and plenty of activities and events you get involved with throughout the year, including competitions, fly-ins and swap meets.

  • RC Flying tuition at BMFA Buckminster
  • Tuition from Qualified Model Flying Instructor and Model Flying Examiner
  • Fly fixed wing aircraft, with Mode 2 transmitter controls (throttle & rudder on the left stick, aileron and elevator on the right stick)
  • 2 flights of approximately 8 minutes per flight
  • Coffee break, with general discussion on the progress, aims the next flights and any update required on the theory of flying the model
  • Further two 8 minute flights with briefing between them
  • Flights are recorded onto a micro-SD card using 'Flight Coach' and results can be emailed to you help improve the understanding of the training
  • Courses are tailor-made to your requirements
  • Training flights are operated 'Dual Control', with the instructor and trainee linked via a 'Buddy box' system
  • Allow approximately three hours on site for this experience
  • Sessions are limited to a maximum amount of 2 participants

Advanced Training

  • Fly a high quality precision aerobatic biplane
  • Models have a 1.5m wingspan and are electric 6S powered

  • No minimum age
  • Under 18s must be accompanied by a participating or spectating adult

  • Spectators are welcome

  • Sessions generally take place on weekdays
  • Weekends may be able to be arranged by prior arrangement, however the centre is busy at the weekends so not ideal for training
  • Dates and session times are subject to availability and weather conditions
  • Morning and afternoon sessions are usually available
