Laser Combat is a new sport made possible through a technological break-through enabling extended range (500 feet/150 meters + in daylight) of infrared units.
In 1998 electronics engineers worked out how to lens the I.R. so the beam could travel much further than previously managed by the old laser tag equipment. This new ability to hit opponents at range and in daylight enabled outdoor laser tag to be born.
Laser Combat development has been influenced in playing style by paint ball whereas the technology is an off-shoot of the old indoor laser ‘tag’ arenas. In many respects Outdoor Laser Combat combines the best aspects of both indoor arena laser tag and paint ball.
The base technology used is an infra-red light which is on the safe side of the visible spectrum. All of the rifle designs come with a "screen saver" or power save feature that automatically extends battery life and doesn't give away a player's position at night.
