Jaguar announces plans to go fully electric by 2025 - News

Well if the news that Audi was planning to do an EV R8 model wasn’t a sign, then this should hopefully act as definite confirmation for the way the wind is blowing as a whole with regards to the motoring industry. The timeless British supercar marque Jaguar has confirmed that they are planning to have an entirely electric powered fleet by 2025.

Speaking at the press launch of their ‘Reimagine’ strategy on Monday (15th February), new Jaguar Land Rover boss Thierry Bolloré announced the plans as part of the firms’ commitment to become a net zero carbon business within the next four years.

This transition will also be marked by their development and launch of a new and unique platform that will be compatible across their whole range, as a ‘pure electric architecture’, something that no other car manufacturer at present appears to be attempting or has attempted.

Much more on this new platform hasn’t been disclosed yet, but an understandably enthusiastic Bolloré did say that the design team were “totally free to prepare and propose the most emotionally dramatic designs they can imagine … we really want the best of the best.”

But those who were feverishly anticipating the much touted Jaguar XJ replacement will be disappointed to hear that this has now been scrapped in line with these new greener plans, as Bolloré also stated that they would be looking to make their fleet more concise and streamlined.

However, they have confirmed the XJ nameplate will remain, thus not ruling out its potential future use. Speaking further, he added: “By the middle of the decade, Jaguar will have undergone a renaissance to emerge as a pure electric luxury brand with a dramatically beautiful new portfolio of emotionally engaging designs and pioneering next-generation technologies.”

As the switch to green vehicles gathers full pace right across the automotive industry, such a timeless and well respected brand like Jaguar’s announcement undoubtedly creates more ripples, and there’s a genuine excitement abound to see what they will deliver with both new designs and also this new platform - and how their rivals will see fit to respond.
