The Instructor will give a briefing to the delegate on how skids occur, when they happen, the different types of skids and how to correct them. To put theory into practice the Instructor takes the delegate to the training facility and gives a short demonstration on the three types of skids.
Exercises will include hands-on training in emergency braking, understeer and oversteer, 180 degree recovery. Surface characteristics are recreated to emulate good dry conditions (weather permitting), summer rain, snow and black ice at speeds from 10mph to 50mph plus. This is dependent upon the length of the course and the ratio of delegates. The delegate takes the wheel and is put through a series of exercises which will enable them to have an understanding of how to react to an out of control situation.
The practical session ends with a debriefing by the Instructor and is focused on the weaknesses in the delegate's ability to initially react to skidding and the processes involved to enable them to overcome their bad practices.
