Yacht Sailing Experience Days

Take to the seas with the wind in your sails with one of our fantastic sailing experiences and yachting experience days. Navigating the seas is considered one of the oldest methods of transport. It is a skill that has been used by seamen for centuries to traverse across open waters to destinations not accessible by any other means. We have many nautical experiences on offer that cover a variety of skills needed to be a sailor. Sailing lessons can be mini-introductions to a more hands-on approach with a full day out on the open water. On these courses, you will learn skills such as navigation, vessel control, how to set your mainsail and also learn where the bow and the stern of a boat are.Below you will find a range of gift vouchers for yacht and sailing experiences that can be booked online or over the phone with a member of the TrackDays.co.uk team.

Yacht Sailing Experiences

For centuries our ancestors took to the world's seas, rivers and lakes to fish, explore and even conquer.

For modern people however, it is no longer necessary to take to the waters. After all, if you want to go on holiday, you'll probably hop in a car or plane and if you're hungry for some seafood, you'll probably just pop to the local supermarket!

Despite this, being at the helm of a boat comes with a certain romanticism. With the water stretched out in front of you and the fresh air filling your lungs, there's nothing quite like sailing to connect to the past, as well as nature.

This is why TrackDays.co.uk offer a range of yacht sailing experiences sure to make waves with budding boaters and adventurers.

Sailing Course

And if you have no sailing experience, don't worry! TrackDays.co.uk offers a Two Day Royal Yacht Association (RYA) Sailing Level One, which is designed as an introductory course to sailing for beginners.

Here, your instructor will guide you through how to sail in all directions, teach you how to launch and recover your boat, as well as demonstrate how to recover from capsizing.

Short theory sessions on land are also provided, where you will be taught how to manage tides, how to sail in different types of weather and the functions of the basic equipment needed.

Sailing Expedition

Meanwhile, for those who prefer to take a less hands on approach, TrackDays.co.uk offers the chance to embark on a sailing expedition with an experienced skipper taking care of navigation.

Whilst aboard, your captain will speak to you about the basics of sailing techniques and point out some of the local wildlife (don't worry, there'll be no sharks!), giving you the chance to bask in the serenity of sailing, whilst also gaining an appreciation for the skill involved in navigating a boat.

Sailing Jargon Explained

If you are new to sailing it can sometimes be a nightmare as there are so many terms that are designed to stop confusion but in actual fact can cause more confusion to the untrained. We have compiled a list of some of the most commonly used terms that you might come across on a sailing activity day.

  • Bow: The bow refers to the front of the boat
  • Aft: Aft is the back of a ship
  • Starboard: Starboard is used to describe the right side of the boat when facing the Bow.
  • Port: Port or portside is used to describe the left-hand side of the boat when facing the Bow.
  • Rudder: The rudder is located at the aft beneath the boat. It is used to steer the ship.
